How do I setup Microsoft Multi-factor Authentication?

Resolution

Install Microsoft Authenticator App on the phone:

1.       Open Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone)

2.       Please search for the Microsoft Authenticator App and install it.

 

Setting up Authenticator App:

1.       Open a web browser (Chrome, Edge, etc.)

2.       Go to https://www.office.com/ and log in (upper right corner of the webpage) using your current network credentials.

3.       Once logged in, go to the upper right corner again and click on your initials or saved profile image, then select “View Account.”

4.       Select Security Info from the menu on the left or the information box in the center by clicking on “Update Info.”

5.       Select “Add Method” and select “Authenticator app” from the drop-down menu and press “Add.”

 

6.       Press Next (2 times) until you see then “QR Code” screen and leave this screen up.

 

7.       Open the Microsoft Authenticator App on the phone.

8.       In the upper right-hand corner, press the 3-dot menu icon , then select Add Account.

9.       Select “Work or School Account”

10.   Select “Scan a QR code.

11.   Using the phone's camera, point it at the QR code provided to you in the browser to link the Account to the Microsoft Authenticator App.

12.   After scanning the code, hit next on the browser.  The action will send a notice to Microsoft Authenticator App; press on Approve.

13.   Press “Next” again, and the Account is now successfully linked to the App.

 

Setting default sign-in method

1.       Still being in the “Security Info” in the browser, select “Set default sign-method” above the list of methods you have saved.

2.       Select “Authenticator app or hardware token – code” from the drop-down list and press confirm.

3.       When you log into the system, it will ask for the “One-Time password code” provided by the App to verify the login.

4.       To bring up the “One-Time password code,” select the Account in the Authenticator App; the number regenerates every 30 secs.  Just type in the code given, and this will allow you to log into your Account.
