How to Add a Safety Share Post to Sharepoint

How do I add a new post to the Sharepoint Safety Shares?

Resolution/Answer

  1. Start by accessing the Westmoreland Sharepoint.
  2. Here you can see the updated Safety Share section:

  1. To make additional Safety Shares you must navigate to the Safety Homepage. Hover over 'Site Map' then click 'Safety'

  1. The link will take you to this page:

  1. Scroll down to the 'Safety Share' section and click 'Add'.
    1. If you do not have an Add button, you will need to request "Member Access to the Safety Sharepoint site" via ticket HERE.

  1. Click 'News Post'.
  2. You may select from a premade template but for the purposes of this article we will click 'Blank News'.

  1. Click 'Create post'.
  2. In the header, click 'Plain' to open the header layout options then click 'Image and title'. This will allow a picture to come through with the news and helps the content look more engaging.

  1. Now there is an image place holder, click the edit button to upload / insert a photo.

  1. Click 'Stock images' if you don't have a specific photo you wish to use, this is a great resource.
  2. Click the 'Search Stock Images' to search for results.
    1. This field works best with single words like 'winter' or 'roads' as 'winter roads' may return 0 results.

  1. Select the image you wish to use.
  2. Click 'Insert (1)'.

  1. Click where the orange highlight is. (there is a 'Set Focal Point' option)

  1. Click in the center of the photo to adjust the focal point:

  1. Click 'Add a title' to enter the topic title. Here we'll use 'Cold Weather Hazards'.

  1. Underneath the header, click 'Add your text here' and write out your Safety Share. Formatting options similar to word are located on the navigation bar above the text box.

To skip this section about customization, move to step 29.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: To customize the article more, we can add additional text boxes, images, or other items, select the icon highlighted in orange.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: For this article, we will add an image. (Repeat steps 11-14 to select a stock image)

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: You can resize the image and choose it's alignment to the page.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: With the image added and resized, we are going to move the title above the image. Highlight and cut (ctrl+x) the title from this text box.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: Click on the plus sign ( + ) to add a text box above the image.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: Click 'Text'.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: Paste (ctrl+v) the title in the newly added text box.
  2. DESIGN OPTIONS: Click 'Normal text' to select one of the Heading options then click 'Heading 2'

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: You can resize this text as well.

  1. DESIGN OPTIONS: And center the title within the text box.

  1. When you have finished with updates to your safety share, click 'Update News' to publish your new post.

  1. This page will now update with "Posted".

The post will automatically update to the 'Safety Home' page as well as the intranet homepage.
