How to Share files with OneDrive

Summary

How to share a personal OneDrive file with anyone in the organization

Body

Issue/Question

I need to share a file with another person within the organization and the file is too large to email. How do I share files on my OneDrive with another user?

Environment

Within the Westmoreland company, all users have access to the OneDrive share feature.

Cause

Users are provided with a certain size limit for sharing files through emails. Once the size of the file is surpassed, the user will have to find an alternative means for sharing large files.

Resolution/Answer

To share files through OneDrive:

  1. Open the File Explorer and navigate to the file you wish to share.

  2. Locate the file you wish to share and Right click the file.
  3. On the drop down menu, choose the Share button with the blue OneDrive cloud next to it.

  4. In the window that opens, select the "Who", the "message" and what type of permissions you want to give the "who" (edit or view).

  5. When you're done, you can either copy a link to the file or just send the message. If you click Send, it sends an email with your message and a link to the file you're sharing to the "who" that you entered.
